Mixed Art at Tidal Art Exhibition

Tidal Exhibition at The Art Place

The Tidal Exhibition at The Art Place was mostly composed of graphic designers. There were other concentrations but graphic design was the most prominent. Other senior’s from Kennesaw included their paintings, drawings, photography, and a large variety of other mediums. I found all of the works to be intriguing, including things such as commercial ads, pastel drawings, and sculpture. There were 2 artists in particular that I enjoyed.
Amanda Johnson was the first KSU artist to catch my eye through her works. She had several graphic design pieces for book covers, ads for Twizzlers and citi bank (citicard), magazine articles, and many others. Amanda had a mixed media piece and 2 silver gelatin prints. Her graphic design pieces were really strong and felt they were appropriate to what she was advertising. The ads she created were fun to look at and from a customer standpoint, I would be interested in purchasing the products advertised. I especially enjoyed Amanda’s ads for citicard and Twizzlers. The citicard ad had a sumo wrestler with ballerinas on it followed by a catchy slogan. The ad was referring to identity theft. The Twizzlers ad had a mom bird feeding her babies a twizzler as though it were a worm, which I thought was clever. I enjoy viewing the artworks created by Amanda Johnson.
The second artist I chose to review was photography major, Morgan Stallings. I found Morgan’s photographs to be enticing for several reasons. Almost all her works were taken in the outdoors and I am very fond of nature. The main reason her photos were great was they gave off a mysterious feeling. The color and haziness made for an incredible illusion. My favorite artworks by Morgan were “Nature Walk” and “Board Walk”. They both had pathways, but they were in two different surroundings. Both of these photographs had the great, fuzzy, mysterious, look. It gave me the urge to explore the places where her photos were taken.
I found this senior show to be successful. I think many of the works and artists have definite possibilities of going somewhere.
